Situation
​
Hampshire Probation Service (HPS) was facing major Change Management challenges in the process of transformation from an established Public Sector Organisation to a Private Sector Partnership.
​
HPS approached People Vision to provide coaching support for two members of the Senior Management Team, to help them achieve demanding performance targets whilst managing the transfer of their multi-million pound operation.
Each coachee was offered detailed CVs of three potential coaches from the People Vision team and after an introductory telephone meeting they chose to work with Ian Crocker. Ian has over 20 years experience as an executive coach, and specialises in supporting individuals through career transitions and organisational change.
Challenge
​
One coachee, who had a wealth of operational experience, had only just been promoted into the Senior Management Team. She needed to evaluate her position in the organisation and adjust her balance between strategic thinking and operational delivery.
The other had been a Senior Manager and Board Member for some years with a remit of Finance and Corporate Services, meaning he was the primary contact with the acquiring partnership. He needed to manage the transfer to tight timescales whilst maintaining the motivation of the workforce to continue delivering a high-profile service.
Action
​
A bespoke programme of face-to-face and telephone coaching sessions was drawn up to best meet the specific needs of each Senior Manager.
In the early sessions, Ian focused on:

Definition and clarification of role.

Identification of areas of personal strength and opportunities for development.

Creation of ‘dashboards’ to report activity and achievement.

Systematic documentation and sharing of learning.

Results

Feedback from the coachees indicates that the work with Ian has supported them in developing strategies to:

Manage initial impressions with the Partnership Company.

Create clear communication channels and reporting procedures.

Maintain staff engagement during a time of significant organisational change.
